It is indeed a great pleasure for me to meet the students who intend to join academic to join academic programmes of this University delivred through the Distance Educations Mode by our School of Distance Education.
As all of you are aware,higher education has assumed critical significance fr the individual's as well as society's development and so there is ever enlarging number of students aspiring for higher education. Although we have created a vast nerwork of institutions of higher education including Universities and Colleges in our county our General Enrolment rate had remained considerably low. There are multipal reasons responsible for this low General Enroment Rate.
Many young persons belonging to the college going age group cannot go for higher education mainly because they cannot financilly or otherwise afford to do it. many of them have to take up jobs for their livelihood. Many live in the distant and remote places where the education facilities are not easily available. There is no other better way of making higher education available to such deprived students except through Distance Education Mode.
Education throgh Distance Education Mode has become acceptable everywhere in the world. In our county also we have quite few Open Universities which make higher education available to the students through this Mode. Many of the Statutory Universities also have Distance Education departments.
With a view to contribute our share for the spread of education amoung the deprived sections of population, like the poor, the woman, the rural, the tribals and the like, we have establised the School of Distance Education in our University. I am happy that this School is doing a commendable work for those who find higher education beyond their reach. I am also happy to note that the school has carefully perpared self learinh material useful for the students.
The arrangements also have been made for conducting contact sessions for the enrolled students at various places. The library facilities of our conductiuent units are made avalable to the students enrolled for Distance Education Programme. I am sure more students wourld find it beneficial to join our School of Distance Eduaction.
