My Dear Students,
I am indeed very happy to know the splendid jbo the School of Distance Education of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University has done since its inception. In a country like India, access to higher education has been greatly constrained by various factors. As is estimated by the University Grants Commission the General Enrolment Ratio of higher education in India is about 13% only. It means, only about 13 students out of hundred of higher education going age group have access to higher education. The percentage is about 25 for the developed countries.
As is envisaged while preparing the 11th plan, this General Enrolment Ratio is to be raised atleast upto 20% by the end of the plan period. In the prevailing situation, this will be possible only if wider access is provided to the students through the Distance Education Mode. It is gratifying to note that the University is moving in a right direction in this regard. The Distance Education Mode has its own mandates; the major one is to provide to the students high quality self study material. Addedly, care has to be taken to see that the registrated students get the reading material in time. I do hope that our School of Distance Education is aware of these mandates and is taking necessary care in these aspects. I wish the School of Distance Education further success in reaching to the unreached.
